Army Medical Corps: GI Medical Officer w Adminstrative A on Caduceus
This is a matched pair of maker marked World War II GI Administrative Medical Officer’s Caduceus Insignia with raised letter A. The A is painted in a dark magenta color.
The caduceus pair is marked Acid Test and features Amcraft’s snowflake starburst pattern on the reverse.
Amcraft is a maker of AAF and GI Officers’ Insignia. The snowflake starburst pattern on the reverse is the hallmark of Amcraft crafted insignia.
The caduceus is the time-honored insignia of the Medical Profession and the applied A indicates the officer as an administrator within the Army’s Medical Department. There is a pair of clutch back posts on the reverse featuring the desired cake plate locking caps.
The caduceus pair retain the brilliant gold finish. The very dark (brown or magenta) letter As retain most of the paint with some chipping. Each caduceus measures 1 by 1.125 inches. The insignia would have been worn on the collar of a Dentist’s Ike Jacket, Tunic or Shirt Collar.
Collectors are seeking medical military collectibles as this genre has long been overlooked. This is a great opportunity to pick up an original set of WWII GI Medical Department branch insignia.
The caduceus pair would also look great in a shadow box display.
