Rick began his abiding interest in photography as a sailor in the U.S. Navy in the '70's. As a crewman aboard an amphibious assault ship, he found himself off many exotic shores in the Tropics...the Phillipines, Cambodia, Vietnam...all fertile locales for capturing photos. After his tour, he finished up his degree at the U. of Washington in Maritime Sciences, intending to pursue a career in the Merchant Marine. As a deck officer for the Washington State Ferries, he spent 12 years serving on every ferry route in Puget Sound.
