1993 Whimsical Statue/Figure of a Pig, sitting
by and looking happy. I think it is made of
plaster and is 8.5" inches tall. His eyes look
almost real, the color and his shape looks impressivelly wonderful. It is very rare
and one of a kind, created by California artist
Pete Apsit was known as the "Master of Whimsey". Most of his designs were sculptures
and this is a Bank, that's why his job was
combined in this piece as a Sculpture/Bank.
His art has been very collectable through out
the years, and so this piece as well.
Dated and Signed on lower back.
In very good used condition, no chips or cracks.

About The Artist :
1937-1999 Peter Apsit was an artist for more than 25 years. His childhood interest in sculpting led to his decision to enter the University of Southern California as an art major in the early 1960’s. He made his early career by sculpting fountains and free-lance designs. There were prominent giftware companies who now number his creations among their product lines. Apsit was an artist who gathered his inspiration from real life, studying his subjects carefully and thoroughly creating intricate detail. His craftsmanship and careful eye to detail can be seen with each sculpture he created. Peter Apsit was a fun-loving person who had many collections which fit his jovial personality and sense of humor. The Holy Herd collection was crafted by Pete Apsit. Pete Apsit had an interest in sculpting from a very young age. This led him to the University of Southern California as an art major in the early 1960,s. He then did lots of work sculpting fountains and other free lance designs. Pete Apsit was inspired by the story of the days before the great flood, when Noah built the Ark and invited the animals two by two. He created the Holy Herd figurines to celebrate the epic voyage of Noah and his family. The Holy Herd pieces are few and far between. Some avid collectors have been in touch with the Character Collectibles/Vangroup company and it seems that there are not many employees still there that remember the Holy Herd collection.
